Tree Marriage for rain

  • On Saturday, 13 June 2009, villagers near Coimbatore of Tamilnadu, India organized a symbolic wedding of two trees to appease Rain God.

  • Both the trees have been grown adjacent for about 35 years.

  • One was margosa tree (Neem tree) and the other was Banyan tree.

  • The special ceremony was organized as per Hindu traditions and was attended by hundreds of villagers.

  • The priest performed the marriage with a large number of devotees.

  • The villagers believed with confidence that by organizing such a wedding, they could get a good rainfall.

  • After the marriage, devotees offered prayers.

  • A special lunch was also arranged for the interested devotees.
